Jason, you are not alone. Getting approved for refinancing isn’t automatic. In general, you need a FICO credit score above 680 and be in good financial health.

Happy to hear that you are making extra payments. It might be worth reapplying in a few months if you’ve lowered your principal balance.

It should be noted that when you refinance federal student loans with a private lender you will lose your Department of Education benefits. For example, if you refinance federal student loans you will no longer be eligible for income-driven repayment plans.
