Thanks, Tia! This was the first year I actually mapped out how I was going to achieve all of my financial goals, and honestly, it’s like magic. It’s amazing how much more you can achieve when you have a well planned out goal. Hope you’re having a great start to your new year!

Thanks, Joe! That’s a great pint about automatic payments. I get a little wary as well, but I set automatic payments and mark them in my calendar. I check them every week to make sure that they are correct and still compare it to the bill amount. It just helps save me time so I don’t have to login to their portal or send in a check every month.

I think planning in advance is def key and not just hoping for something to happen.

Payroll contributions are better since they reduce social security and medicare taxes, but bank transfers only reduce AGI.

I definitely plan on starting a 529 for my soon-to-be-born son.

Not a big fan of automatic payments as I don’t really trust the companies and have heard too many horror stories of those same companies not turning off autopay after cancelling service or taking out more than the bill (or in the event they “accidentally” overbill). That said, I do have direct deposit via my paycheck setup to pay into my savings and Roth IRA.
