1. Do not waste food

Have at least two meals together with your children. Teach them the importance and hard work of the farmers and ask them not to waste their food.

2. Teach your child the dignity of labour

Let the kids wash their own plates after every meal, fold their clothes and some other house-hold activities. Kids learn dignity of labour from such activities and respect everyone when they grow.

3. Teach them to cook

Allow them to help you in cooking. Let them make their own vegetable and fruit salad. This will help them to cook on their own when they are alone in future.

4. Help them to learn new words

Teach them to learn five new words in English or any other language of your choice and list them in a notebook. Use those words while communicating with them and ask them to do the same.

5. Socialising with others

Visit three neighbours often. Know more about them and build a rapport with them. This will let them away from fear of strangers. Moreover, they get lot of information and knowledge when they meet new people.

6. Bond with elderly people and grandparents

Visit their grandparents and let your children bond with them. Their love and emotional support are very important for your child. Click snaps with them, have a chat and eat with them.

7. Importance of work

Take them to your work spot and let your child understand that you work very hard to support the family. They should know the importance of each penny that you are earning for the family.

8. Attend local events

Do not miss the local festivals and local markets. Children enjoys the lightning events and stalls in the markets. They will meet new kids and learn something new from them.

9. Knowledge about plants and trees

Gently encourage your child to raise a kitchen garden by planting seeds. Knowledge about plants and trees are an integral part of your child’s growing up.

10. Tell them about your childhood stories

Share stories about your childhood and your family history. Explain them how you grew up, what hurdles that you faced and what you enjoyed the most. Also, tell them how you respect the elders.

11. Allow your kids to play outdoor activities

Allow your child to play outdoors, get hurt and get dirty. It’s okay for them to fall and experience pain occasionally. Comfortable life within the sofa cushions will make them lazy.

12. Adopt a pet animal

Allow them to adopt a pet dog or a cat or any animal, bird or fish. They can develop love and care when they bond with pet animals. I know many people whose kids are showing affection even with street dogs or cows as how they treat their pets.

13. Teach them a few folk songs

Teach them a few folk songs. Some children are reserved and few are moody. But when you notice that if they hear or see folk songs, they will be enthusiastic and start dancing. This will change their mindset and help them to get rid of stage fear or fear of crowd in public places.

14. Read some bedtime stories everyday

Get some story books with colourful pictures for your kids. Reading or story telling at night enriches their language development and improves their imagination and creativity. It also builds their vocabulary while conversation.

15. Keep them away from electronic gadgets

Keep your children away from TV, mobile phones, computers and other electronic gadgets. It may hampers their brain development, creates negative effects on social life and many other problems including health. They have their whole life for that.

16. Avoid junk foods and drinks

Avoid giving chocolates, jellies, cream cakes, chips, aerated drinks and too many bakery products or pocket foods. It creates serious health problems including obesity and chronic diseases. It also leads to learning and memory problems, digestion and inadequate development and growth.

17. Be thankful to god

Look into their eyes and thank God for giving you one wonderful gift, that is your children. In a few years from now, they will be soaring into greater heights and achieve their goals.

1. Do not allow your child to sit on anyone’s lap

Warn your daughter or son not to sit on anyone’s lap, no matter the situation, including uncles. The emotional bonding may improve if the children sit on one’s lap but it is rather more important to see if that person is trusted or not.

2. Avoid dressing in front of your child

Avoid dressing in front of your children from the age of three. It may discomfort them with seeing parents naked. Moreover, they unconsciously get sexually stimulated by parental nudity.

3. Do not allow anyone to refer your child as their spouse

Never allow an adult to refer to your child as “my wife” or “my husband”. Again this may discomfort them when they grow and sometimes they get irritated.

4. Monitor your child when they play with their friends

Whenever your child goes out to play with his or her friends, be sure to find a way to find out what type of game they play, because young people abuse themselves sexually. And this is not new.

5. Check if your child is comfortable with the adult they visit

Never have your child visit an adult with whom he is not comfortable, and also consider whether your child becomes a big fan of a particular adult.

6. Talk to your child when you see sudden changes

Once, a very cheerful kid seen changes in her activities and suddenly becomes shy. You may need to be patient and cautious, as well as clear up a few questions about why you are behaving.

7. Teach them about sex education carefully

Educate carefully about the correct values of sexuality. If you don’t, society will teach you the wrong values. They should understand what is right and what is wrong. However, nowadays some TV series especially Bollywood series interprets wrongly about having affairs and it really spoils the current generation.

8. Review the new material that you bought for your kid

It is always advisable to review any new material or stuff, such as cartoons you just bought for them. You should watch completely and ensure it looks perfect before they watch.

9. Enable parental controls

Make sure to enable parental controls on your cable networks and advise your friends, especially your children’s. Visit frequently as nowadays kids are brilliant than adults and based on their activities they know how to disable the controls.

10. Teach your kids about their private parts

Teach your children from three years to wash their private parts well and warn them never to allow anyone to touch them (remember, caring begins at home and with you).

11. Keep away hazardous things

Keep away any associated materials that you think could endanger your child’s mental health (this includes music, movies, and even family and friends). Also, don’t smoke or drink in front of your children as you may become a bad example of your own kids.

12. Take action when your child complains about someone

Once your child complains about a particular person, don’t keep quiet. Talk to that person either he or she may be a teacher, neighbour or your relative and warn them before they continue to do the same. If possible, try to avoid that person completely.
